The Switchables Hummingbird Needs No Nectar
The Switchables stained glass Hummingbird appears to hover over your light fixture just like the real thing, but without that annoying hum.
Please note that this is a stained glass night light cover designed to be used with the Switchables Nightlight Fixture (sold separately, see the related products below). This is not a self-contained night light. You could also use Switchables as a suncatcher, a Christmas ornament, or with any other kind of light source. To display your Switchables cover in a window, add the optional suction cup.
The new green-and-clear Hummingbird cover, as pictured, replaces the old green-and-red cover, which is no longer being produced.
Are you curious...?
Among the smallest of birds, hummingbirds can not only hover in place, but are the only bird that can fly backwards. They get their energy from the sugar in the nectar that they feed upon. Because birds cannot live upon sugar alone, they also eat insects and spiders. Hummingbirds in flight have the fastest metabolism of any animal except insects, and that means that they need to feed almost continuously. Hummingbirds can barely store enough energy to survive overnight and are always just hours away from starvation. In spite of this high-performance lifestyle, a hummingbird can live for 10 years or more, although 3-5 years is more typical. Your Switchables stained glass version should last a good deal longer.
