Are you curious...?
The real tour Eiffel is the tallest structure in Paris and one of the most recognizable landmarks on Earth. Gustave Eiffel built it as the entrance arch for the 1889 World's Fair. It's as tall as an 81-story building and was the tallest structure in the world until New York's Chrysler Building came along in 1930. The steel girder design neatly embodies the industrial era mentality, but many people thought it was an eyesore when it was new. Among its critics was novelist Guy de Maupassant. When asked why he ate lunch in the structure's restaurant every day, he said that it was the one place in Paris where he couldn't see the tower.
