Did you spend all that money on your nice handbag so that you could set it on a dirty restaurant floor packed with germs waiting to ride home with you? (Think we're exaggerating? Skip to the article at the bottom of this page if you have a strong stomach). Do you hang it over the back of a chair, where it can be easily stolen? Do you place it on the seat beside you, crowding your dinner companions? No, you probably keep it on your lap, where it's just plain uncomfortable.

You need a purse hook.

Our pursehooks all have a non-skid rubber backing, and the hook pivots freely around the head. PurseHooks hold up to 35 pounds of handbags, shopping bags, umbrellas, hats, diaper bags, or anything else with a handle or strap. They take up very little space in your purse and weigh next to nothing.

Each PurseHook comes in its own black velvet pouch, embroidered with the PurseHook logo. Because no two stones are exactly alike, the patterns on the hangers that you receive will not exactly match our photos, and the colors might be a shade darker or lighter than pictured. That's nature for you.

To seal the deal, our purse hooks are eco-friendly. They are made from 100% recycled zinc alloy with a 100% recycled rubber backing that clings to any surface. When we call this line "natural beauty", we aren't kidding.

Other stores sell plain, uninspired, mass produced handbag hangers for as little as $5. Sure those will do the job, but we don't sell cheap handbag hooks here. Our more sophisticated line of Natural Beauty PurseHooks strikes a great balance between price and quality.

All of the styles in this series use an animal-skin print under a clear resin "bubble". Although you'd swear that they look real, no animals were harmed in making these pursehooks.

  • Cheetahs may be fast, but they can't climb trees. Remember that if you're ever being chased by one. A cheetah can reach 75 mph (120 km/h) and can accelerate from 0 to 68 mph (110km/h) in three seconds, which is better than most racecars can manage.
  • Giraffe is the tallest of all land animals. It's related to deer and cattle. A giraffe presented to Lorenzo de' Medici in 1486 caused a big stir upon arriving in Florence, where it was the first one of its kind since the days of ancient Rome. Nowadays, a giraffe named Geoffrey works for Toys R Us.

Your Purse and Your Health

Warning: This story is not for the squeamish!

Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor of the car. You won't be caught without your handbag, but did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day? If you think about it, you shouldn't be surprised if your purse picks up some dirt...and germs.

It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked.

Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria. Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make you very sick.

In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. "There is fecal contamination on the handbags" says Amy. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without, with one exception.

The handbag of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. We're going to spare you the details, but trust me -- it's disgusting.

Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets, and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen counter top. Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes. "If you think about putting a pair of shoes onto your counter tops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your handbag on the counter tops."
