Assemble an Avenger
Marvel introduced Iron Man to the world in 1963. More than half a century later he's more popular than ever. Our very challenging Metal Earth model has more than 80 pieces on four sheets of colored metal. Assembled, Iron Man measures 4.75" x 2.25" x 2.5".
Each Metal Earth model is laser etched in meticulous detail on 11 cm (4.33") metal sheets. Pop out the pieces by hand (or use wire cutters to get especially crisp lines), bend the tabs using needle-nose pliers, and fit them together as shown in the simple pictorial instructions. For maximum dramatic effect, display your model on the LED Display Base or the Solar Spinner (sold separately, see below).
Please note that Metal Earth models have sharp edges and are not suitable for children under 14.
Are you curious...?
In 1963, Stan Lee thought it would be challenging to create a "quintessential capitalist" superhero who was out of step with the times and with Marvel's readership. Young readers during the Cold War did not view the military favorably, to put it mildly, so a rich weapons manufacturer should have been instantly unlikeable. Lee made his invulnerable hero sympathetic by giving him a literally broken heart. Tony Stark's look and personality were based on Howard Hughes. In his debut, Iron Man wore a gray armored suit and battled Vietnamese communists. The suit turned golden in his second adventure and finally got its red-and-gold color several issues later. Iron Man became a founding member of the Avengers in December 1963 and has appeared in every Avengers story since then.
