Each Metal Earth model is laser etched in meticulous detail on 11 cm (4.33") metal sheets. Pop out the pieces by hand (or use wire cutters to get especially crisp lines), bend the tabs using needle-nose pliers, and fit them together as shown in the simple pictorial instructions. For maximum dramatic effect, display your model on the LED Display Base or the Solar Spinner (sold separately, see the Related Products below).
Darth Vader's TIE Fighter is an intermediate difficulty Metal Earth model. It comes on two sheets of metal. Assembled, it measures 2.5 x 2.25 x 1.75" (6.35 x 5.72 x 4.44 cm). Darth Vader flew an advanced model of the Empire's Twin Ion Engine fighter craft, recognizable by its curved wings. Star Wars fans will want one model of Darth Vader's ship and two or more regular TIE fighters, plus some X-Wings to engage with.
Please note that Metal Earth models have sharp edges and are not suitable for small children. Metal Earth was originally called MetalWorks.
Are you curious...?
Darth Vader flies a TIE Advanced x1 prototype -- nominally because he's the boss, but cinematically to distinguish his ship from everybody else's. TIE fighter wings are large solar panels that power twin ion engines. Lacking hyperdrive, shield generators, and even life support, the fast and agile -- but vulnerable and, some say, disposable -- craft are designed for dogfighting. Indeed, Star Wars editors used WW2 air combat clips as placeholders while the special effects people created the movie battles. The TIE's sound is a combination of an elephant call with a car driving on wet pavement.
