Open One for Pop
Made from real recycled bicycle chain, this special Fathers Day bottle opener is great for any dad who likes bikes or beverages. They're 8" long (20.3 cm) and plenty strong to handle daily use. Due to the variable nature of recycled materials, no two bottle openers are exactly alike...sort of like dads.
If you are buying this as a gift, we suggest ticking the box above to put it in a nice velveteen drawstring pouch.
Are you curious...?
After Mothers Day became a successful holiday, people started advocating special days for other family members. Fathers were the most logical choice. Sonora Smart Dodd founded Fathers' Day in the Spokane, Washington YMCA in 1910. She initially meant for it to be celebrated on June 5, the birthday of her Civil War veteran father, but it was postponed to the third Sunday of June to give local pastors time to prepare their sermons. It was not a resounding success. Americans resisted the blatant attempt by merchants to milk a Mothers Day clone for decades. But retailers are a persistent lot and...well, here you are.
So the moral of the story is that commercialization always wins in the end, right? Maybe not. November 19 is International Mens Day to honor those of us who aren't fathers. We're still waiting for our gifts. Grandparents Day and Childrens Day didn't really catch on, either...yet.
