Lean On Me
Each Metal Earth model is laser etched in meticulous detail on one, two, or three 11 cm (4.33") metal sheets. Pop out the pieces by hand (or use wire cutters to get especially crisp lines), bend the tabs using needle-nose pliers, and fit them together as shown in the simple pictorial instructions. Metal Earth models are a little less challenging than our 3D wooden puzzles, but you do need some patience and dexterity because they're also much smaller. For maximum dramatic effect, display your model on the LED Display Base or the Solar Spinner (sold separately, see the Related Products tab).
The Tower of Pisa is an easy Metal Earth model. It comes on one sheet of metal.
Please note that Metal Earth models have sharp edges and are not suitable for children under 14.
Are you curious...?
The bell tower of Pisa started to tilt shortly after construction began in 1173, which partly explains why it took them 344 years to finish it. The 3-meter thick (10') foundation was inadequate to begin with and the ground beneath it was soft. Construction stopped for a century after the second floor was done because Pisa was almost constantly at war; the long hiatus allowed the ground to settle. The Pisans finally decided to add several more floors in 1272. To compensate for the lower stories' tilt, the new levels were built with one side a little higher than the other. Now the tower was actually bent. More warfare put a halt to things again in 1284. It took them until 1319 to finish the seventh floor, and another 53 years to add the bell tower. You will be able to complete our MetalWorks version somewhat more quickly.
