The Happy Gourd
Our Switchables stained glass Jack-o-Lantern nightlight cover is a much easier way to light up your Halloween than carving up a real pumpkin, and with considerably less mess, too.
This is not a self-contained night light. Switchables stained glass night light covers are designed to be used with the Switchables Nightlight Fixture (sold separately). Switchables are "switchable" because you can easily swap any one of our covers onto the same simple fixture. You can also use your Switchables cover as a suncatcher, a Christmas ornament, or with any other kind of light source. To display your Switchables cover in a window, add the optional suction cup. Switchables make gift-giving easy: Start your recipient out with a fixture and one or two covers, then buy him or her new covers on future gift-giving occasions.
Are you curious...?
Who was Jacko, and why is his lantern a pumpkin? The Irish tell a story about Stingy Jack, a farmer who somehow trapped the Devil. Before releasing his captive, Jack made the Devil promise never to take his soul. When Jack eventually died after a happy and sinful life, his loose ways kept him out of Heaven. Since the Devil couldn't take him to Hell, Jack was stuck wandering the earth, day and night. When he asked the Devil how he would find his way, the Devil tossed him a flame from Hell that would never go out. Jack carved out a turnip because that's what Irishmen did for lanterns back then, and became known as Jack of the Lantern. The "jack o' lantern" came to describe the mysterious flickering light sometimes seen over peat bogs, which was understood to be the ghosts of evildoers who misled travelers into the marshes.
