Do you know how baseball got started? Wrong! The Abner Doubleday story is widely believed, but there is no evidence for it. None of Doubleday's many letters and papers contain any description of baseball. His New York Times obituary makes no mention of baseball at all, nor does an encyclopedia article about Doubleday published in 1911. Contrary to popular belief, Doubleday was never inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. So where did baseball really come from?

Although its roots are British, similar games have been played in other parts of the world since the 1300s. Americans played a version of the British game Rounders in the early 1800s which they called "Town Ball". In fact, early forms of baseball had a number of names, including "Base Ball", "Goal Ball", "Round Ball" and simply "Base".

We are certain of one thing: no version of baseball has ever featured stained glass in any prominent role. Our earrings are about 0.5" (1.25 cm) in diameter. The pin, depicting a diamond with a ball corkscrewing out of the park, measures about 1.5" x 2" (3.8 x 5 cm).

Switchable jewelry comes attached to a white parchment paper card with the Switchables logo. We can package it in a nice velveteen gift pouch for a small additional charge. To order both the pin and the earrings, add this product to your shopping cart twice.
